What is the purpose of the SEED Fellows?
The events in our nation have brought about an increased awareness of race, inclusion, and equity in the United States. Education has been a topic of this awareness as it relates to what and how students should be taught. Education reform that incorporates race, culture, and equity is on the horizon. As policy changes are being developed, it is vitally important to have associated changes in education. Educators require a brave space to discuss the issues and the implications on both their instructional practices and classroom culture. To accomplish this, educators must have the knowledge and support to be empowered as advocates for their students. This group will be a support system as they advocate for social justice in education.
Who can participate?
The program will consist of North Carolina formal and informal STEM educators, including CTE educators, PreK-16 educators, Institutional Admin, Museum educators, K-12 science teachers, K-12 math teachers, school-based STEM coaches, and regional STEM district leaders.
When do the SEED Fellows meet?
The books and reflection manuals are free to Fellows thanks to a generous donation by the Burroughs Wellcome Fund (BWF). The group meets every other Wednesday from 5:00-6:30 via ZOOM. There is one in-person session to attend the Color of Education, on September 27th and 28th. Hotel costs and mileage stipends are covered.
