Here is an email I received May 9, 2007. Congratulations Teralynn!

Dear Ms. Harris,
My name is Teralynn and I'm in the fifth grade.
I loved your book Crime Scene Science Fair Projects! I did the project DNA Extraction, you know from fruit and vegetables. I did that experiment but put my own twist on it... I was looking for the least amount of DNA and the fruits had the least. I did my project as a newspaper saying that a grocery store was broken into and either the Bad News Fruit Gang or the Rotten Vegetable Gang was responsible for "saucing" the tomatoes. The Forensic Sleuth had to find the least amount of DNA. And the Bad News Fruit Gang was Busted! We took pictures of the fruit and vegetables that I tested and put faces on them...then on the board we put them together under the title MUG SHOTS.

Today I won first place in the Botany category and then I won first place overall! This was my first Science Fair project and we got your book from the public library...I'm so happy I found it! It's too bad that we here we only put our science fair projects against other school mate in the school...cause I know I could have won in a state tournament with it. I'm thinking of going into Forensic Science we I grow up.

Thank you so much for writing that book!!

As a parent I have to say that this project was messy! But it was a lot of fun and I'm glad I was able to be a part in it. This book really made it real for Teralynn and I could see her excitement as she did the project. After Teralynn won everyone came and looked at her board and experiment and she proudly told them where she got the idea for her project. Next she's going to go and thank the librarian for making sure the book was there!

Congratulations on such a well written and fun (ekk can I say Science and fun together??) Science book.

Cheers,
Cynthia (Teralynn's Mom)
